Elevator Resources
“Accessibility” is a hot-button word these days. No one wants to limit the amount of people who can access their business or inconvenience friends and family who can’t access the entirety of your home. Choosing to install elevators and lifts in commercial and residential locations is one of the best ways to give everyone full access to a building. Not only is it safe and convenient to use elevators and lifts, but the permanent nature of most of these upgrades will often raise the value of a home or business. Through modernization, businesses can stay well within federal accessibility requirements, avoiding the potential for negative consequences due to a lack of access.
One of the places that tends to be the least accessible is a private home. Unless someone living in the home can’t navigate them, stairs are the default choice for a house and tend to only be upgraded to wheelchair lifts or elevators when necessary. This becomes a problem when you or a family member ages, is injured, or falls ill. Including an elevator or dumbwaiters in a home can be an ideal way to make certain that you’re covered if you ever get hurt or become less mobile while also welcoming your loved ones who may have less mobility than you. A residential elevator or lift in good repair is a bold step toward accessibility everywhere.
It’s also crucial that commercial building owners are aware of the requirements under the Americans With Disabilities Act to ensure accessibility of public spaces. If there’s room for modernization, this is a great way to show your commitment to accessibility. Refusing to upgrade a commercial space and remaining inaccessible can lead to serious consequences from the federal government, not to mention that it’s bad business. If a customer enters your building and wants to purchase something, they should be able to get to the parts of the building they need. An elevator that is never given maintenance and is out of order can also prevent people from accessing parts of the building, potentially losing you a sale. Although not all commercial buildings are legally required to install elevators, there is never a downside to making a building easier to access and navigate for those with disabilities.
Elevators are ideal solutions to meeting ADA requirements and providing convenience as well as accessibility. Not only are they great for home use, especially as you age, but they’re also often part of the legal requirements for commercial buildings.
